Its been a while since our classes trip to the Science Fair, and a lot of things have been happening out of regular classroom schedule. As our class hasn't posted about them for a good while, here's a summary of the last week or so.
Firstly, the Champions League has recently started, much to the excitement of many football fans in 6th class. About 10 or so students in our class have decided to participate in the matches. They were mixed up into small teams along with some other classes and from that it's simple: The teams play against each other, following the basic football rules with no exceptions. May the best team win!

Our class does not normally get the chance to go in-depth with its music lessons, but the past few lessons have taught us otherwise! The tin whistle is a woodwind instrument that is closely tied in with ancient Celtic music, and has part of it's origin from Ireland. We each acquired a tin whistle and learned the basics of it. After a while we finally managed to play a few notes, and a short song or two. All in all, it was a fun experience and we hope to continue it for a good while!
Africa is a unique place, brimming with culture, pleasant landscapes and beautiful wildlife. One of these more well-known countries is called Nigeria, a land that once belonged to the famous Benin natives, of which we are learning in class. These people existed from 1440 - 1897 and were well known in Europe for their fine art and craftsmanship. These people were ruled by a king, or known more commonly as The Oba. The Oba decided on all events going on in the kingdom, ranging from trading to punishment verdicts to creation of weapons. The Kingdom was small, but as time went by, they conquered more and more of their neighboring kingdoms lands. This made Benin's reputation grow, and so they slowly became wealthier, and so they attracted more attention from European countries such as Portugal, England and the Netherlands. Eventually they established trade with the countries.
Unfortunately though, that's as far as our studies have went so far. We have done plenty of work though to research Nigeria, including laptop work and project-making group work. Here is some Benin artwork:

Entrance Exams!
By this time of year most 6th class students are doing, or at least preparing, for their entrance exams. Our class is no exception! We got last year's Loreto entrance exam samples and practiced completing different sections of the test every morning for 15 minutes. The exercises were for the English part of the entrance exams, and included tasks such as:

Soccer Summaries
Since the Champions League got announced in our school, the topic of football has definitely started to spring up more than usual. It wasn't long before the sub-topic of soccer arrived in our P.E lessons. There isn't much to say except that the football fanatics got a chance to practice for the Championship and show their talent!

Our Science Trip
About two weeks ago, we attended the Dublin Science fair with our project: Does adding different chemicals affect plant growth? The answer was yes. For example: Adding vinegar to pure water will kill the plant, whereas sugar helps the plant grow. Later on when a group of students were at our stall, a judge came along to rate our work.
About a week later we received a trophy and individual certificates for participating in the science fair. Here is a picture of the trophy:
